About

Jesse Sanford is…

A seasoned technology professional specializing in highly durable, highly available, horizontally scalable open source architectures pertaining not only to the web but to any massively concurrent application. In addition I am perfecting my software engineering skills surrounding how software as a product can be brought through the full lifecycle. I have experience in architecting platforms for clients from the persistence layer on through the user experience and have worked on middleware for very large highly trafficked web sites. I would like to continue to solve scalability problems and possibly move into the mobile arena where devices and applications that they interact with have to handle higher volume.

My Specialties

Performance, High availability, scalability, durability, software architecture, server architecture, 3-tier architecture, N-tier architecture, software lifecycle management, scrum, agile practices, extreme programming, lean software development, test first development, software team lead, software testing, load testing, stress testing, unit testing, integration testing, load balancing, proxying, reverse proxying, http acceleration, caching, edge caching

I am currently employed as a Software Architect / Systems Architect / Technical Lead.

Job functions and achievements

Assisted in technology advisement for business development on nearly every project over the last five years. Tasks included proposals, scoping, project planning, research and documentation.

Primary author for numerous deliverable technical briefs and documents that were often used as payment milestones. Also authored hundreds of pages of post launch technical documentation (run books, escalation plans, logical and physical architecture diagrams, test plans etc.)

Point of contact for clients on day to day technology issues. Lead client meetings and training sessions.

Chief Architect and lead developer on numerous large custom web applications for large media companies and major non-profits. Clients include Viacom, ABC, CBS, Fox, Lifetime, National Geographic, Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, The City of New York, Carnegie Hall, Columbia University, The School Of Visual Arts, Atlantic Monthly, National Journal

Adopted coding standards, implemented software development best practices (version control systems like subversion and git) and lead internal and offshore developers. Interfaced with client technology managers and lead hand-offs and integrations.

Initiated and lead the use of virtualization technologies for quick deployment of developers sandboxes allowing shorter ramp-up periods and faster staff augmentation. The added benefit was reduced bug complexity, easier distribution and delegation of work and shorter QA periods.

Initiated and lead the use of cloud computing solutions like Amazon’s EC2 for creating QA/testing environments for client use and offshore developers.

Initiated and lead the use of cloud computing solutions for load testing purposes and stress testing larger server deployments when the use of desktop computers alone could not create enough concurrent load on the application being tested.
